Instruments of the Orchestra
Hey 6th grade music students, don't forget to tell your families about the unique things we've learned in music class: Osmo Vanska is the conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra, Yo-Yo Ma is a world famous cellist, and Iccolo Miccolo played the piccolo in the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The Falcons will be taking their orchestra test next Friday, 11/16. The Cougar and Eagle schedule is still up in the air. I hope you are enjoying listening to all of the unique sounds in the orchestra. Does anyone have a grandmother named Viola?

Can you tell me the name of any famous tacet players?
Throughout all of music history there seems to be little written about accomplished tacet players. Scholars who know much about them have chosen to remain silent.
when was the ocrestra founded or made to be?
You pose a challenging question Breann. I did some research and discovered that Ancient Egypt had the first real groups of instruments playing together and these groups could be considered orchestras. Many scholars believe that the evolution of the orchestra as we know it today began in the 16th century. The instrumentation of the orchestra has changed over the years and I imagine that changes in instrumentation will continue well in to the future. If you would like to learn more I would recommend a Google search of "orchestra history." I found useful information at http://www.mathcs.duq.edu/~iben/orchist.htm
Hope you found this information useful and thanks for asking.
